“Navidad Celestial” is a very special light sculpture commission Sestak Lighting Design recieved from the Crocker Art Museum in 2014. This installation will become the new Christmas Tree for the museum during the holiday season. It’s made up of 50 stars or “estrellas”. Some are the traditional tin and others are white glass and colored glass, combining materials to create a lush, varied design.
Each contain an LED MR16 lamp that changes colors via a custom program. The stars hang from an 8 foot diameter snowflake made of three layers of 3/8″ aluminum. This support structure was custom fabricated by Capital Sheet Metal in Sacramento. The light sculpture weighs just under 500 lbs and is constructed in a modular fashion so that the stars can be hung individually from the snowflake.
Navidad Celestial will be re-installed yearly on the Monday before Thanksgiving and become the main feature for Christmas holidays.
