Tasked with reimagining one of Sacramento’s most historic corridors, Sestak Lighting Design created a programmable LED system spanning K Street from Downtown Commons to the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. The design pays homage to the marquee lights that defined the district for generations, while bringing the corridor into its next era with a fully dynamic, color-changing system that responds to holidays, community events, and local sports victories.
The project’s defining innovation is its wireless architecture. Rather than relying on traditional hardwired pole-to-pole cabling, the system operates on wireless communication powered within the city’s existing light poles, dramatically reducing installation cost and complexity. It’s a forward-thinking model built to scale and be replicated across other public and commercial spaces.
Beyond aesthetics, the installation advances pedestrian safety, extends evening foot traffic, and strengthens the visual identity of downtown’s central promenade, demonstrating how thoughtful lighting design can transform not just how a space looks, but how a community experiences it.
